Feeling

Most of us live for the here and now. Actually I would argue that all of do. That is not to say that some of us have our eyes set on things above, but when you consider emotions and feelings and present knowledge, we all are limited to the now.

I believe we have all fallen victim to the thought, "If only they knew..." fill in the rest. But have we ever thought to turn that statement around on ourselves? Think about it. At one point you did not know something, the next moment you knew something you previously had not, and the final moment you realize there was a moment in time where you had know idea of something you now know forever.

Follow?

Now let me throw in some emotions on you. When you think back to a moment of feeling, be it happiness, sadness, anger, joy, etc with all the cliche feelings it was only under that circumstance that you felt that way. Only in that specific moment in time did you feel that way about that certain thing and you will never get that moment back. From now and onto the future you can only speculate on how you felt and reflected on the gravity or lightness of said feelings. You will never feel that way again. You may actually feeling stronger now, or even less. But each time and each feeling is different.

I think most of us live in the here and now because we reflect a lot on the 'then'. We are creatures of comparison. But let me tell you now that there is no greater thief of joy than comparison.

My request to you is that instead of trying to remember, forget, reflect, or foment emotions you felt or will have felt, just live right now to better yourself for today. Live in the moment you have and know you will never get it back. Our favorite author, Dr. Seuss said, "You never know how special a moment is until it becomes a memory." Don't live your life amidst bad, regretful, quick, fading, overwhelming memories. Live the memory you have right now and completely saturate yourself in its feelings. You will never get it again. Let it change you in the way it was meant to change you, but never let its passing engross your every moment of freedom to feel in the future.

"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:33-34
